In Hero Wars, Faceless is a unique magic hero with a skill that sets him apart — Doppelganger, which allows him to copy the ultimate ability of another ally. While this sounds like a powerful mechanic, there are important limitations to be aware of. Not all ultimates are compatible with Faceless, and some are completely ineffective when copied.
In this post, we’ll break down the ultimate abilities that don’t work well with Faceless, explain why, and help you avoid wasting energy and potential during events like Faceless Brawls.
He Can’t Copy Himself
One of the most misunderstood interactions is Faceless vs. Faceless. If both teams field a Faceless and they’re the only heroes left on the battlefield, Doppelganger will not trigger. Faceless cannot transform into another Faceless, which results in a standoff where both heroes are fully charged, but neither casts their ultimate.
In a full 5v5 battle, the mechanics work a bit differently. If both teams include Faceless and the fight eventually comes down to just the two of them, Doppelganger will activate, but instead of copying each other, each Faceless reuses the last ultimate they previously copied earlier in the fight.
Morrigan: No Effect at All
Morrigan’s ultimate, Army of Graven, summons undead skeletons to fight alongside her. While it’s a powerful support skill in regular gameplay, Faceless cannot copy this ability. Even if Morrigan is the last to cast an ultimate, Faceless will not transform or summon skeletons. This makes Morrigan a poor synergy partner for him.
Jet’s Elixir Is Useless
Jet’s ultimate, Elixir of Vigor, is a channeled healing ability that continuously boosts an ally’s physical damage output. The problem? Faceless uses all of his energy immediately when casting Doppelganger. Because Jet’s ability requires sustained energy over time, Faceless instantly cancels the effect, making the copy completely ineffective.
Astrid and Lucas: Unusable Without Rage
Faceless can target Astrid and Lucas with Doppelganger, but he cannot activate their ultimate. The skill relies on building up rage, a mechanic that Faceless doesn’t have. When he transforms into Astrid, there’s no rage to trigger the ability, so the ultimate never activates.
Hero Wars Faceless vs Ishmael: A Mismatch
Ishmael’s ultimate grants high critical hit chance and attack speed — perfect for physical attackers. But since Hero Wars Faceless is a magic-based hero, he doesn’t benefit from crits, and the attack speed bonus is mostly irrelevant. In addition, Ishmael’s demonic form consumes energy over time, which Faceless doesn’t replicate. The result is a visually flashy, but strategically empty move.
Hero Wars Faceless and Elmir: Another Empty Transformation
Elmir’s ultimate transforms him into a ranged fighter and boosts his physical attack. But Faceless doesn’t deal physical damage. So, even though the animation plays, the transformation has no real effect. It’s just a waste of energy with no added value to your team.
The Ninja Turtles Can’t Be Duplicated
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles execute a multi-hero combo as their ultimate — a sequence Faceless can’t mimic. Instead, when attempting to copy it, Faceless reuses the last successful ultimate he had previously copied in the battle. It’s not a glitch; it’s just how the fallback system works due to the complexity of the Turtles’ skill.
Hero Wars Faceless and Jhu: Not a Good Match
Jhu’s skill grants him rage, attack speed, and temporary immortality — but these effects don’t apply to Faceless in a meaningful way. He gains no benefit from the rage or attack speed, and the can’t-die mechanic doesn’t activate. It’s another visually cool but functionally empty transformation.
Satori’s Ultimate Lacks Damage When Copied
While Faceless can copy Satori’s ultimate, the damage it deals relies on Fox Fire marks being present on enemies. Since Satori consumes those marks when casting, Faceless often copies the skill after the marks are gone, leading to zero damage. It looks impressive, but does nothing if mistimed.
Mushy and Shroom Can’t Be Replicated
Faceless is also unable to copy Mushy and Shroom’s ultimate because it relies on a summoning mechanic. Doppelganger doesn’t support summoning entities, so the skill won’t trigger. Instead, Faceless will default to the last usable ultimate he had previously copied.
Final Thoughts: Know What to Avoid
Faceless is a versatile hero with great potential, but he comes with very specific limitations. His Doppelganger skill is powerful — only if used wisely. Copying the wrong ultimate wastes his energy and can cost you the battle.
When building a team around Hero Wars Faceless, avoid pairing him with:
- Heroes who rely on rage (like Astrid and Lucas)
- Channeling ultimates (like Jet)
- Summoners or multi-entity mechanics (like Morrigan and Mushy & Shroom)
- Physical-only buffs (like Ishmael, Elmir, and Jhu)
By steering clear of poor synergy and understanding the mechanics behind each transformation, you can maximize Faceless’ power and make smarter decisions during Brawls and beyond.
