Returning Players Guide 2026
This Returning Players Guide is for anyone coming back to Hero Wars Web after a long break. If you have been away from Dominion for two years or more, the game you remember has changed a lot. It is not dead, of course, but it is very different. You open your titans and find an element you have never heard of. Your totems suddenly have skill slots. Meanwhile, your guild keeps talking about something called “Area of Complaints.”
So in this guide, we walk you through all of it, piece by piece. By the end, day one back will not feel like day one at all.
Returning Players Guide: What Changed at a Glance
Before we dig in, here is the short version. Use this table as a quick map, and then jump to the sections that matter most for your account.
New Heroes, Crossovers and the Soul Atrium
Let’s start with the easy part. Eleven new heroes have joined in the last two years alone: Augustus, Folio, Lyria, Guus, Cascade, Electra von Grave, Fluffy, Byrna, Adam, Somna and, most recently, Eva in September.
On top of that, there are crossovers too. Lara Croft and the Ninja Turtles have both visited Dominion. Yes, really. So if you are scrolling your hero list wondering who half these people are, you are not alone.
However, the part that actually matters is the pace. A new hero now lands roughly every two months. That sounds exhausting at first, but there is a catch that works in your favor.
Every time a new hero releases, one more hero gets added to the Soul Atrium. Lately, heroes have been reaching it about six months after launch. In other words, that hero you missed is not gone forever. There is a slower road, and it is open.
There is also one more newcomer worth knowing about: Robin, a brand-new pet that arrived this month with the Mead Festival. It is a patron option, and for certain heroes it is a real upgrade.
Summoner Titans Rewrote Totem Rules
Heroes were the warm-up. The titans, on the other hand, are where things really shift.
Remember needing three titans of the same element to fire a Water, Fire or Earth totem? That rule just got bent. Summoner titans come in pairs, and for totem activation, a summoner counts as two titans.
So a summoner plus just one more titan of the same element is enough to fire the totem. That trick works for Water, Fire, Earth and Distortion, but not for Light and Dark titans.
Because a summoner pair only takes up two slots for a full three-titan count, a five-titan team can now run two different elemental totems in the same fight, for example Fire and Earth together. That one rule rewrote titan team building.
Besides, the titans keep coming. Seven new ones have arrived in about a year. If your lineup is the one you left with, it has fallen behind, and that is completely normal. Nobody coming back is expected to catch up overnight.
Distortion: The Sixth Element
Yes, there is a sixth element now. Distortion arrived in August with two titans:
- Alecto – a marksman who goes straight for the back of the enemy team.
- Valdur & Echo – a summoner who hits every enemy and shuffles their positions around.
Crowd control and backline pressure make up the whole identity of the element. Distortion is strong against Light and Dark, but weak against Fire, Water and Earth. It also brings its own totem, which covers the battlefield in shards and punishes any enemy that dares to move.
Totems Changed Twice: Six Totems and Fusion
The first change is simple. There are now six totems instead of five, with Distortion joining the original lineup. Each one can reach six stars and level 130. Better still, their stat bonuses apply even if the totem never gets summoned in a fight.
The second change is the big one: Fusion. Every totem now has two extra skill slots on top of its base skill, one elemental and one primal. You craft them with catalysts, and the results are random.
On paper, that is a small edge. In a close titan fight, though, it is exactly the kind of edge that flips the result. There is also bad luck protection built in, so eventually the dice tip your way.
Quick warning before you touch your inventory: spare totem spheres no longer turn into emeralds. Instead, spare fragments and spheres now convert into catalysts for Fusion. So the old spheres you have been hoarding did not lose their value. They just found a new job.
Guild Life: Area of Conquest and Territory of Titans
Guild life looks completely different now, and the biggest addition is Area of Conquest. Picture a live map where guilds fight guilds in real time.
It first appeared in mid-2024 and now runs every month. You capture villages, hold settlements, fight over the middle of the map, and upgrade your castle with everything you earn. It is not just for bragging rights, either. Area of Conquest is the best source of golden threads, which feed the flag pattern system sitting on top of war flags. That is a whole power layer that simply did not exist when many of you left.
Fair warning, however: matchmaking runs on an ELO-style system. Win more, and you face tougher guilds. That is exactly why the community nicknamed it “Area of Complaints.” Play a few rounds and you will get the joke.
Territory of Titans
Titans did not get left out. Since May this year, there has been a titan version too: Territory of Titans. It uses the same live-map idea, but this time your titans do the fighting. It also runs every month with the same ELO-style matchmaking, and the top guilds walk away with primal and elemental catalysts. Those are the same catalysts that power Fusion, so this is one more way to feed your totems.
Guild Prestige Rework
Guild Prestige was reworked at the start of October, and it now includes a paid ticket track. By our own math, each prestige level takes roughly 60% more guild effort than before. As a result, if your guild used to cruise through high prestige levels, expect a fight.
Asgard Has a New Raid Boss
In Asgard, Osh the Eternal Keeper is still waiting for you, but he has company now. The Maestro of the Phantom Orchestra is a brand-new raid boss with his own buff system. Those buff choices can make or break a team, and one buff in this fight is something almost every team needs at high level.
Ascension Season: A New Layer of Hero Progression
Ascension keeps expanding, and heroes are still receiving new ascension skills. On top of that, there is now a dedicated event for it: the Ascension Season.
It runs for almost a month, and the whole season is built around one hero’s new ascension skills. Currently, that hero is Martha. You earn season experience just by using her in the campaign, arena, grand arena, dungeon, guild war and Clash of Worlds.
There is a free track. On Martha’s pass, however, two of her new skills sit on the paid side. Whether that is worth it really comes down to one question: how central is Martha to your teams?
Mysterious Island Is Back Every Month (and the Great Storm Is Not)
Here is something you probably do remember. The Mysterious Island is still here, with the same routes and rewards you know, and sometimes resource generators too. The difference is that it is now a brand-new map every month.
Special islands often launch alongside new heroes and titans, such as a Distortion Island for the new element, a Somna Island and an Adam Island. Most recently, the Mead Festival brought Robin generators along with a few others, all on the same map. With a fresh map every month, planning your route is part of the game.
On the other hand, you may go looking for the Great Storm and not find it. It is currently out of rotation. Nexters said older players did not find the rewards interesting enough, and they have talked about a revamp. So far, though, nothing has been promised.
Server Merges: Why Now Is a Great Time to Return
If you are coming back right now, this might be the most important part of the whole Returning Players Guide. Server merges are happening. A first batch merged at the end of September, and the rest were scheduled for mid-October.
So what does that mean for you? Guilds stay together, members and banners included. Arena, grand arena and guild wars reset, though, and everyone starts again from their last position or league. That means more players, more competition, and guilds reshuffling over the coming weeks.
Two more details are worth knowing:
- Free server-move ticket: Nexters sent players a free ticket, and some actually got two. It has no expiry and is valid for servers older than your original one.
- Multiple accounts on one merged server: you will have to pick one to keep. The other gets converted into emeralds based on the VIP points it built up.
Rankings are shuffling, guilds are recruiting again, and everyone is adjusting at the same time. In a strange way, there may never be a better moment to come back. After all, a returning player with a decent account is exactly what a lot of rebuilding guilds are looking for.
The Four Things That Matter Most
To bring it all together, here are the four biggest takeaways from this Returning Players Guide:
- Titans changed more than anything else – summoners, Distortion and Fusion.
- Area of Conquest and Territory of Titans are now a big part of guild life.
- New heroes arrive every two months, and the Soul Atrium eventually catches up.
- Server merges are resetting the competitive scene right now.
Now we want to hear from you. How long were you away, and what surprised you most when you came back? And if you never left, what is the one change you would warn a returning friend about first?
