Cleaver Relics Breakdown

This Cleaver Relics Breakdown covers what The Butcher’s fully-developed Relics actually do once they hit the battlefield — not on paper, but inside real fights where healers crumble and negative effects get wiped clean. We already explained the mechanics when they were announced, yet seeing them written down and watching them tear a battle apart are two completely different things. And right now, thanks to Hero Brawls handing everyone maxed heroes and maxed Relics for free, you can test all of it yourself.

Here is the short version before we dig in: these Relics have transformed him. You do not even need Relic Level 20 to feel it — the difference is already enormous by Level 10. So instead of glancing at Cleaver and thinking “okay, he got more damage,” treat this as a hero who suddenly does almost everything at once.

Cleaver Relics Breakdown: Every Tier Explained

Each Relic tier stacks a new layer onto what Cleaver already brings as a tank. Rather than one flat power bump, the kit builds toward a hero who controls, suppresses healing, and cleanses — all while dealing Pure Damage. Here is exactly what unlocks and when.

Relic Level What It Adds
Level 1 — Miasma Cleaver gains Miasma, applying an effect to the central enemy for 7 seconds. It repeatedly damages the enemies around that target every half-second, so pressure spreads deeper into the enemy formation immediately.
Level 10 — Healing Suppression Enemies affected by Putrefaction or Miasma restore 60% less health to themselves and their allies. If an enemy carries both effects at the same time, that healing reduction is doubled. This is where healers start to feel completely different against him.
Level 20 — Cleansing Whenever Cleaver or his allies take damage from their own or allied skills, negative effects are removed from that damaged hero. The effect stays active while Cleaver is alive — turning a tank into a cleaning machine for the whole team.
Final Relic — Scaling Damage Cleaver gains additional damage depending on the enemies around him, rewarding him for doing what he already wants to do: sit in the middle of the fight and pull the enemy apart.

The Byrna Test: When Healing Falls Apart

Numbers on a card only mean so much, so we tested Byrna specifically to see how far Cleaver could interfere with healing. Without Cleaver’s Relic Level 10 effect active, Byrna’s basic attacks were healing for roughly 125,000. Then the Relic effect came into play — and that same healing dropped to around 48,000.

Think about that gap for a second. Roughly 125K collapsing to roughly 48K, from a single Relic tier, before you even factor in the doubled reduction when both effects overlap. That is why this Cleaver Relics Breakdown keeps coming back to the same point: he is not simply a damage upgrade, he is a healing-denial engine that reshapes every fight built around sustain.

The Core Four: Cleaver, Aidan, Kendle & Dorian

After everything we tested, four heroes form the fundamental structure — Cleaver, Aidan, Kendle, and Dorian. The reason this core clicks is not just that all four are individually strong. Instead, their mechanics feed directly into what Cleaver’s Relics want the team to do.

Aidan and Kendle matter most here. Their sacrifice and self-damage mechanics mean your own team is constantly interacting with the exact condition the Level 20 Relic looks for: damage coming from your own or allied skills. So rather than waiting on the enemy to decide when your composition switches on, your own heroes trigger the cleansing themselves. That is a huge difference — you are creating the conditions instead of hoping for them.

Then you add Dorian, another Chaos hero who brings sustain into a composition that is already brutally hard to disrupt. Against heroes whose whole plan depends on stacking negative effects — Iris, Tempus, Phobos and their kind — a team that keeps cleaning itself while suppressing healing becomes a genuine nightmare to break.

The Fifth Slot: Where You Experiment

Once you have that four-hero foundation, do not just copy our fifth pick — this is where the Brawls become your testing lab. Each option below pushes the core in a different direction, so try one, attack a defense, swap it, and attack again.

Fifth Hero What It Gives the Core
Peech A faster, more aggressive attack. Push the tempo and see whether the extra pressure lets the Cleaver core overwhelm the opponent earlier.
Lian More control, plus a ridiculous amount of Pure Damage stacked from Cleaver, Lian, and Kendle. The battlefield turns into a Pure Damage festival.
Xe’Sha Magical pressure — and, crucially, another sacrifice-driven hero whose mechanics feed the same activation condition the whole composition is chasing.
Kayla Another aggressive Chaos option if you want to lean harder into raw offense. And do not stop there — try something ridiculous and see why it fails.

Cleaver Isn’t Doing One Job Anymore

Step back and look at everything he is doing at once. He is tanking. Beyond that, he is controlling, pulling enemies out of position, dealing Pure Damage, reducing healing, and cleansing negative effects — and at his final Relic, gaining more damage depending on the crowd around him. For a hero who spent so long struggling to find a serious place at the highest levels, that is an enormous leap.

That range is the real headline of this Cleaver Relics Breakdown. Yes, he got stronger — but “stronger” undersells it when a single hero now folds tankiness, control, healing suppression, cleansing, Pure Damage, and team support into one body.

Chaos Has a New Soul

The faction was already getting more interesting with Kendle, and Dorian’s rework and Relics added another important piece. Cleaver, though, feels like the hero who ties those pieces together. He gives Chaos a center of gravity — a body the sacrifice and self-damage heroes can build around instead of fighting for the same space.

Still, do not take our word for it. That is the entire point right now: the Brawls are giving everyone maxed heroes and maxed Relics, so you can experiment with endgame mechanics without first spending months building them. Build Cleaver, Aidan, Kendle, and Dorian, rotate that fifth slot, and test against healing, against Iris, against Tempus, against control. Then build a difficult defense and try to break it. If you find something crazy, drop your strongest Cleaver Brawls team in the comments — this is exactly where the community discovers what the new Cleaver can truly do. The Butcher has waited a long time for his moment, and this might finally be it.
