Luther Relics Breakdown | Hero Wars Alliance
This Luther Relics Breakdown covers all four Legendary Relic milestones in Hero Wars Alliance, from Righteous Retribution at Level 1 to Unshakable Faith at Level 30. For the past couple of years, magic-based teams have shaped much of the meta, with powerful mages, devastating magical combinations and Intelligence-based Heroes running the show. However, Physical Heroes keep getting stronger, and some of the newest mechanics look especially interesting against magic-oriented teams.
Following his rework, Luther’s Legendary Relics bring four important additions: more Magic Defense, extra Armor Penetration, repeated Stuns, and even a way to reduce the Magic Attack of nearby enemies. So the big question is simple. Could Luther become one of the most dangerous Tanks against magic-based teams, and could these Relics help shift the balance between Physical and Magic Damage?
This is our first look at the Relics, so the focus here is on how each mechanic works and how they interact. In upcoming content, we’ll test them in real battles, check their performance against different teams, and then discuss which upgrades deserve priority.
Luther Relics Breakdown: All Four Milestones at a Glance
Before we dig into the details, here’s a quick overview of what each Legendary Relic milestone unlocks for Luther.
Level 1: Righteous Retribution
The first Legendary Relic introduces a brand-new ability, and it’s a genuinely interesting one. Every twelve seconds, Luther starts accumulating Righteousness Charges for an eight-second window. During that period, incoming damage feeds his stored charges, while his initial charge scales with Physical Attack.
Here’s the most important part, though. Each time Luther takes damage, his Righteousness Charge grows by ten percent of his current Magic Defense. In other words, this isn’t a fixed bonus. The ability reads whatever Magic Defense he has at that exact moment.
That detail matters because his reworked fourth skill, Doctrine of Faith, raises his Magic Defense whenever he receives Magic Damage. As a result, the more his Magic Defense climbs, the bigger each new charge can become.
Once the eight seconds end, he releases everything he’s stored, dealing Physical Damage equal to the accumulated amount to nearby enemies. Even if he dies before the timer runs out, he still releases whatever charges he’d built up to that point.
Notice one more thing: the charge grows whenever Luther takes any damage, not only Magic Damage. Physical or magical, the bonus is still based on his current Magic Defense. Consequently, this Relic creates a direct link between his defensive development and his offensive potential, turning incoming damage into pressure.
Level 10: Gehenna Every Eleven Seconds
At Legendary Relic Level 10, Luther’s third skill, Gehenna, gets upgraded. Normally, it fires when he lands after using Omen, releasing a fiery wave that deals Physical Damage and stuns nearby enemies for two seconds.
With the Legendary upgrade, Gehenna now triggers every eleven seconds. That gives him a recurring source of Physical Damage and crowd control throughout the whole battle, and the damage still scales with Physical Attack.
Those repeated Stuns can also open opportunities for teammates. Artemis is a good example, since her Smart Arrow interacts with stunned enemies. Moreover, because Luther jumps straight into enemy formations, frequent Gehenna activations could hit especially hard when he’s surrounded by opposing Heroes.
Level 20: Doctrine of Faith Adds Armor Penetration
This is where things get especially interesting. Before the upgrade, Doctrine of Faith already gave Luther extra Magic Defense for four seconds whenever he received Magic Damage, which is a valuable tool against teams that deal continuous magical damage.
Now, with the Legendary upgrade, the same trigger also boosts his Armor Penetration for four seconds. On top of that, the extra Armor Penetration scales with his Physical Attack.
How the Level 20 Chain Works
Think about the loop this creates. Magic Damage activates his bonus Magic Defense, and that higher Magic Defense feeds bigger Righteousness Charges. Meanwhile, the very same Magic Damage now raises his Armor Penetration too. So Luther gains protection while also improving his ability to deal effective Physical Damage against armored targets.
Tristan becomes a particularly interesting partner here, since his Artifact Weapon can provide additional Armor Penetration. Picture Luther storing charges under magical fire, gaining Armor Penetration from Doctrine of Faith, and getting offensive support from Tristan at the same time. That combination of Physical Damage, Magic Defense scaling and Armor Penetration is exactly why this milestone deserves close attention during testing. Still, the real question is how much extra damage these mechanics actually produce in battle.
Level 30: Unshakable Faith
The final milestone introduces another completely new ability. While Luther is alive, every enemy around him has their Magic Attack reduced, and the size of that reduction scales with his Physical Attack.
This pairs beautifully with his second skill, Omen, which sends him leaping directly into the opposing formation. Imagine him landing next to several magic damage dealers with Unshakable Faith active. Rather than just protecting himself against magic, he’s actively weakening the magical offense of everyone around him.
That said, there’s an important distinction. Unshakable Faith lowers Magic Attack, so it matters most against Heroes whose damage or abilities depend on that stat. It doesn’t automatically shut down every Intelligence-based Hero or every type of damage.
How All Four Relics Work Together
Put together, the full kit looks like this:
- Doctrine of Faith improves his resistance to Magic Damage and, at Level 20, adds Armor Penetration.
- Righteous Retribution converts incoming damage into charges based on his current Magic Defense.
- Gehenna delivers recurring Physical Damage and Stun every eleven seconds.
- Unshakable Faith cuts the Magic Attack of nearby enemies.
Each mechanic adds something different, yet they all reinforce his original identity as a Tank who disrupts enemy formations. He can jump into the enemy team, mess with their positioning, apply control, boost his defensive stats, and potentially raise his damage output. Against magic-oriented teams, that’s certainly worth investigating.
Heroes Worth Testing Alongside Luther
In our upcoming tests, we’ll examine how Luther pairs with Tristan, Guus, Artemis, Soleil and Byrna. Each of them brings something different, from Armor Penetration and offensive support to healing, protection and extra control interactions. We also want to see how well he survives inside enemy formations and how much offensive value his new Relics actually provide.
Is the Era of Magic Dominance Ending?
After years of magical dominance, a shift in the balance between Physical and Magic Damage would make team building a lot more interesting. Physical Heroes have already received some notable improvements, and this Luther Relics Breakdown shows another potential option for challenging magic-heavy compositions.
Of course, that doesn’t mean magic teams are about to disappear, or that physical teams will suddenly take over. Nevertheless, if Luther can combine strong magical resistance with meaningful Physical Damage and enemy Magic Attack reduction, he could become a very interesting Hero in the evolving meta.
For now, we’re explaining the mechanics rather than declaring a final ranking. Next comes real battles and real testing, followed by our analysis of which Relic milestones deserve priority and which team combinations make the best use of his new abilities.
