Nightmare Abode Mistake in Hero Wars Dominion Era
The Nightmare Abode event is quietly draining more resources than most players realize, and the single biggest Nightmare Abode mistake is costing more progress than every old event trap combined. Most commanders never spot it until it is far too late, so read this carefully before you spend another Energy Crystal.
Before we get into the new traps, here is a quick refresher. We have already broken down event mistakes twice before, and every lesson from those guides still applies directly to the Nightmare Abode event.
A Quick Recap of Past Event Mistakes
Both earlier guides are linked further down, so treat this section as a fast reminder rather than a full breakdown. If you have never seen them, go check them out, because we are not repeating these lessons in detail today.
Lessons From the Umbra Event
From the Umbra event mistakes guide, three rules carry straight over. First, do not over-upgrade your relics beyond what you actually need. Second, avoid refreshing the shop and wasting coins on rerolls. Finally, never enter the event without a clear plan.
Lessons From the Adam Event
The Adam event mistakes guide adds a few more. Stick to the tested team setups exactly, because changing even one talisman can ruin a confirmed run. Decide your target before you enter the chapters, and use the free tools on the Olympus website instead of spending blindly. Above all, finish your progress early rather than gambling everything in the final hours.
With those refreshers covered, let us focus on the three fresh traps. Each new Nightmare Abode mistake below is unique to this event, and the first one in particular is costing players more than all the old traps combined.
Mistake One: Building Two Different Teams
This is the Nightmare Abode mistake that quietly wrecks the most runs, and it starts with a trap that sounds perfectly logical. The Nightmare Abode event features Archdemon battles, and the team that clears your chapter boss is not always the team that deals the most damage to the Archdemon. Naturally, the obvious conclusion seems to be building one team for the chapter boss and a separate team for the Archdemon.
That logic sounds reasonable, yet it is one of the worst decisions you can make, and one of the fastest ways to ruin your entire run. Remember how Stall Coins work: the team you build lives inside that specific chapter, funded entirely by the Stall Coins you earn there, and those coins are limited. Building one optimized team is hard enough on that budget, so trying to build two at once simply spreads your coins too thin, leaving you with two incomplete teams instead of one powerful one.
The smarter approach is refreshingly simple. Start by finding your Archdemon team first, then compare it against the recommended chapter boss team and identify the heroes both teams share. Once you know the overlap, you only need to recruit one extra hero, two at most, to fill the remaining gap. From there, choose the chapter that demands the fewest changes.
One more tip: do not be afraid to pick a lower chapter for this strategy. The deeper chapters may look tempting, but an easier chapter gives you far more room to test small adjustments without getting punished for every mistake. In short, one core roster, a couple of swaps, and an easier chapter is the winning play.

Mistake Two: Missing the Free Daily Resources
This one sounds obvious, but it happens far more often than it should, and those missed rewards add up surprisingly fast. Every day of the event, the Daily Charge hands you 2 Energy Crystals, while the Daily Rewards add another 6. That works out to 8 Energy Crystals every single day, or 56 Energy Crystals across the entire event. When you are managing resources carefully, especially as a free-to-play player, that steady drip makes a real difference, so do not miss a single day.
That is only part of the free value on the table, though. Throughout the event, three community gift drops deliver another 48 Energy Crystals in total, along with free Valor Coins and Sapphire Medallions. On top of that, extra gift links sometimes appear containing only Valor Coins, and those are absolutely worth grabbing too. If keeping track of every link feels like a chore, just use the Olympus gift page, which collects every active gift in one place so claiming takes seconds.
Here is how all that free energy stacks up:
Add it together and you are looking at over 100 free Energy Crystals. For free-to-play players, that much energy can easily be the difference between reaching your Somna star goal and falling just short. So log in, claim everything, and move on.
Mistake Three: The Workshop Upgrade Order
Now we reach the most expensive, and arguably the easiest, place to slip up in the entire Somna event: the Workshop, where you upgrade your relics. The first thing to understand is that upgrade order matters enormously. Never upgrade the Amulet of Battle, your combat relic, or the Grail of Generosity, which reduces your Altar of Fate spin cost, before you upgrade the Tome of Greed.
No matter what level you are aiming for, and no matter what your event optimizer suggests, the Tome of Greed always comes first. Here is why. The Tome rewards you every time you spend Energy Crystals, and the bonus starts at 100 Valor Coins per crystal at level one, then climbs by another 100 with every level after, reaching 200 at level two, 300 at level three, and beyond.
Because of that, once you begin upgrading the Tome, every Energy Crystal you spend afterward, including the crystals used to upgrade the Tome itself, starts generating extra Valor Coins. It snowballs incredibly fast. In fact, every Energy Crystal you spend before upgrading the Tome is bonus Valor Coins you permanently lose.
After the Tome, upgrade the Amulet of Battle. Since this relic directly boosts your combat power and helps you unlock and clear chapters more consistently, it naturally comes second. Only then should you invest in the Grail of Generosity. Lower Altar of Fate spin costs are genuinely valuable, but that benefit only pays off after the Tome and the Amulet have already done their work.
So lock in this order every single time:
Tome of Greed, then Amulet of Battle, then Grail of Generosity. Never the other way around.
Avoid Every Nightmare Abode Mistake and Spend With a Plan
That covers the biggest traps players are falling into during the Nightmare Abode event. Avoid these mistakes, spend your resources with a clear plan, and you will squeeze far more value out of every Energy Crystal while making steady progress toward your goals. Ultimately, the players who plan ahead are the ones who finish the event with heroes to spare, so build one smart team, claim every free crystal, and upgrade your Workshop in the right order.
