For a while, Satori could absolutely blast through Julius teams. His marks would land, he’d fire his ultimate, and almost the entire team would vanish while Julius was sometimes left standing alone. Naturally, that made Satori look like one of the most effective answers to Julius in the game.

There was a problem, however: Julius wasn’t always working as intended. Several issues with his skills have now been corrected, and every one of them matters when you’re trying to understand this matchup today.

The Julius Fixes That Changed the Matchup

In other words, when you compare old Julius battles with what happens today, you aren’t necessarily comparing the same situation. Some of those earlier interactions were shaped by skills that weren’t behaving the way they were designed to.

Test One: Satori Without Julius

We started with a baseline. With no Julius protecting the team, Satori begins applying his marks, and they steadily build up across every hero. Once everything is set, he activates his ultimate and the damage comes crashing through. The team is devastated, which is exactly the kind of Satori explosion most players are used to seeing.

Test Two: Adding Julius to the Team

Next, we changed just one thing and slotted Julius into the team. This is where the Julius vs Satori comparison gets genuinely interesting, because the marks still go on. You can see them clearly on the heroes, and at first glance it looks like nothing has changed.

That said, what you see on the battlefield doesn’t always tell the full story. We found something very similar during our Julius vs Iris testing: the visual effect of Inner Fire stayed on screen after Julius’s cleanse triggered, yet when we checked the actual damage and Health numbers, the Damage over Time had already stopped.

Against Satori, the visible marks are just as misleading. He prepares his attack and fires his ultimate, but meanwhile Julius’s cleansing has been constantly protecting the team and stripping away negative effects. Against Satori, though, the fundamental problem exists before Relics even enter the picture. Satori needs his marks, Julius has cleansing, and now that Julius works correctly, those two mechanics collide head-on.

Julius vs Satori Comparison: The Verdict

So, is Satori an effective answer to Julius? Based on what we saw in these tests, no. Interestingly, the result is quite different from what we found with Iris.

Why Satori Struggles More Than Iris

When we tested Iris, we were careful not to claim Julius had killed her or made Damage over Time useless. That’s because Iris still had windows. If Inner Fire landed and Julius didn’t generate a Shield or cleanse at the right moment, her damage could still hit extremely fast and extremely hard. For that reason, we talked about adding support like Nebula and control options like Crow to shrink those dangerous windows.

Satori is a different story. His attack depends heavily on keeping those marks alive right up until his damage arrives, and Julius naturally targets that exact mechanism through cleansing. Put simply, against Iris the Relics gave Julius a powerful new answer that Iris could still slip between, whereas against Satori, Julius already has the kind of mechanic that directly breaks what Satori needs to do. The Relics just make an already tough matchup even tougher.

Can Satori Ever Get Through?

Yes, occasionally, because battles rarely work in absolutes. There can still be moments where the right passive isn’t active at the right time, or where Satori’s marks survive long enough to land. Different compositions around Julius can also change how consistently the team stays protected.

Still, those opportunities are far more limited than they used to be. Once you layer Julius’s Relics on top of the corrected base interaction, the extra Shield and cleanse opportunities squeeze Satori’s windows down even further.

Why Testing After Fixes Matters

If you watched Satori wipe Julius teams before and wondered why today’s results look so different, you weren’t imagining things. Julius had real issues that have since been corrected, and now we’re testing the interaction with him behaving as intended. Unsurprisingly, the outcome is dramatically different.

This is also why retesting after updates matters so much. Sometimes the meta doesn’t shift because a hero gets a brand-new skill; instead, a mechanic that was always meant to exist finally starts working, and suddenly a whole matchup flips.
