Realm Research Upgrade Strategy | Hero Wars Alliance

Realm Research Upgrade Strategy

A smart Realm Research Upgrade Strategy can save you months of wasted timers and resources in Hero Wars Alliance. With nine research trees to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed the first time you open that menu. Should you rush Hero bonuses? Do the upgrades help outside Realm? And is a second Research Center actually necessary?

Instead of walking through every individual upgrade, this guide explains how the system works, what we believe deserves priority, and how to make your progression more efficient. After all, understanding the strategy is far more valuable than simply following a list.

How Realm Research Works

Realm Research becomes available once you unlock Realm at Level 40. Your Research Center can then be upgraded up to Level 25, which provides a maximum research-time reduction of 2.5% and gives access to the research tied to that level.

Each completed research grants a permanent improvement, ranging from resource production and troop development to extra stats for your Heroes. Most importantly, Hero bonuses from Realm Research apply across every game mode, not just Realm. As a result, certain upgrades become particularly valuable for your overall account progression.

The Nine Research Trees

Realm Research arrived in two phases. The first phase introduced six trees, while the second added three more that use a new resource.

Tree Phase What It Improves
Economy 1 Producing and gathering Wood, Stone, Food and Iron
Economy Pro 1 Extends the Economy tree
Growth 1 Construction, training and research speed, plus additional troop marches
Growth Pro 1 Extends the Growth tree
Troops 1 Infantry, Spearmen and Marksmen Health, Defense and Lethality
Heroes 1 Health, Physical Attack, Magic Attack, Armor, Magic Defense, Crit Chance
Troops Pro 2 Further improvements to your Realm troops
Tactical Classes 2 Tank, Control, Support and Healer Heroes, including Toughness
Combat Classes 2 Mage, Warrior and Marksman Heroes: Armor Penetration, Magic Penetration, Crit Chance

Phase Two Trees and Honor Marks

Combat Classes doesn’t unlock right away. First, you’ll need to complete at least 20% of the Troops Pro tree. In addition, all three newer trees require Honor Marks, a resource obtained from Guild Versus reward chests.

Is the Second Research Center Worth It?

The second phase also introduced an optional second Research Center, available for roughly $30. It lets two research projects run simultaneously, which is certainly convenient. That said, it isn’t necessary, because the original Research Center remains perfectly usable if you’d rather not buy the extra one.

Research Chests

For every ten completed research upgrades, you can open a Research Chest. Depending on its rarity, the chest may contain Skin Stone Chests, Rune Stones, Artifact Boxes, Titan Skin Stones, Summoning Spheres, Elemental Spheres and other Hero and Titan development materials. In other words, research progression pays off beyond the upgrades themselves.

Realm Research Upgrade Strategy in Hero Wars Alliance

Our Realm Research Upgrade Strategy: Start With Economy and Growth

Hero Research is extremely tempting, but our recommendation might surprise some of you. We believe the best foundation for long-term Realm progression actually starts with Economy and Growth.

Think about it: almost everything you develop in Realm requires resources, construction, training or research time. Improving those areas early therefore makes all of your future progression more efficient. That’s why our Realm Research Upgrade Strategy invests heavily in Economy, Economy Pro, Growth and Growth Pro during the earlier stages.

Sync Hero Research With Guild Versus

Of course, that doesn’t mean ignoring Hero Research. This is where Guild Versus gives us a useful opportunity, because two of its days line up perfectly with research activity.

Guild Versus Day Rewards What We Do
Day 3 Research activity and Honor Mark use Start research in the newer trees using saved Honor Marks and Speed-Ups
Day 4 Hero Power Prioritize Hero Research upgrades

During most of the week, concentrate on your Economy and Growth trees. Then, when Guild Versus provides the opportunity, switch to Hero Research and collect extra rewards from the same progression. It’s a simple approach that combines long-term development with event efficiency.

Which Hero Research Attributes to Prioritize

In the original Hero Research tree, some of the most valuable upgrades give flat increases to Health, Physical Attack and Magic Attack. These can offer very noticeable benefits, particularly for developing accounts. Meanwhile, Armor, Magic Defense and Critical Hit Chance provide percentage-based improvements, so their value depends more heavily on your Heroes’ existing stats.

For Newer Guardians

Our advice for newer players is to focus on upgrades that benefit your main team whenever the tree allows it. However, there’s one limitation worth understanding. Since the second research phase arrived, progression through the trees has become more linear, which means you may need to complete certain upgrades before reaching the ones you really want. That’s perfectly normal, so don’t let it frustrate you.

For Developed Accounts

On more developed accounts, the decision changes slightly. If you regularly use several teams, a wider range of Hero Research bonuses can pay off. On the other hand, an account built around one fighting style can still prioritize accordingly.

Team Type Attributes to Prioritize
Magic damage Magic Attack, Magic Penetration, Magic Critical Hit Chance, Health
Physical damage Physical Attack, Armor Penetration, Physical Critical Hit Chance, Health

Ultimately, the key is understanding which attributes actually support your Heroes.

When Should You Invest in Troop Research?

You may have noticed we haven’t recommended Realm Troop Research yet, and there’s a reason for that. In our own progression, we focused heavily on Economy and Growth, finishing almost all of those trees and roughly 80% of the original Hero Research tree before seriously developing the first Troops tree. For our account, that approach worked well.

Naturally, stronger troops help against tougher Realm monsters and Elite Bosses. Still, the reward difference between certain boss levels, such as Level 25 and Level 30, may not justify delaying more valuable account-wide improvements. So Troop Research isn’t unimportant; we’re simply choosing when to prioritize it.

Looking ahead, Realm PvP is planned for 2027, and troop strength and defensive preparation could become more important then. Since nobody knows exactly how those mechanics will work yet, we won’t make assumptions. Once more information becomes available, though, we’ll revisit our priorities.

Troops Pro, Tactical Classes and Combat Classes

Generally, we recommend making substantial progress through the original trees before investing heavily in these newer options. There is, however, one very useful exception: Guild Versus Day Three.

On that day, you earn Guild Versus points by using Honor Marks to start research in the newer trees, with a maximum target of 2,250 Honor Marks. Additionally, Research Speed-Ups help you finish projects faster while contributing extra points through their own tasks. For that reason, we save both Honor Marks and Speed-Ups for Day Three whenever practical. That way, the same resources push your research forward and earn Guild Versus rewards at once.

Should You Spend Emeralds to Speed Up Research?

For most players, our answer is no. Some advanced research projects take a considerable amount of time, and finishing them instantly can cost thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, of Emeralds. That’s a big investment just to shorten a timer. In many cases, those Emeralds provide better value during Outland discounts or other opportunities that directly strengthen your account.

One small warning, too: be careful when navigating the Emerald speed-up options, because accidental purchases can happen without an additional confirmation screen. Take your time and check what you’re selecting. After all, research is designed as a long-term progression system, so there’s no need to complete everything immediately.

Our Realm Research Plan in a Nutshell

  • Build a strong foundation through Economy and Growth.
  • Develop Hero Research according to your teams and priorities.
  • Use Guild Versus Days Three and Four to make Honor Marks and Speed-Ups more rewarding.
  • Gradually improve your troops as Realm progresses and new challenges appear.

Above all, remember that every account develops differently. This Realm Research Upgrade Strategy is based on what has worked for us, but the best approach is always the one that fits your own progression and goals.
