Hero Wars Roles Guide

This Hero Wars Roles Guide breaks down all seven hero roles in Dominion Era, what each one actually does, and which heroes fill every job best right now. Most new players build a team by grabbing whoever has the biggest power number. As a result, they end up with five heroes doing the same job and lose to teams half their strength. Instead, let’s fix that one role at a time.

Why Hero Roles Matter in Dominion Era

Every hero in Hero Wars Web has a role, and that role tells you where they belong on the field and why they’re there. In other words, a winning team isn’t just five strong heroes. Rather, it’s five heroes covering each other’s weaknesses. With that in mind, here’s every role in order, from the front line to the back.

1. Tank: The Front Line

Tanks have more health and more resistance than anyone else in battle. They stand on the front line, absorb the damage meant for your backline, and some even pull enemy attacks onto themselves. That’s why losing your tank early is so dangerous: once they fall, everything behind them usually falls next.

Electra

Right now, Electra holds the tank throne. She’s the most used tank in Arena and the most used hero in Area of Conquest, because she protects her team while still dealing real damage, something most tanks simply can’t do.

Galahad

Galahad is the veteran of the role. Although his peak is behind him, he stays consistent across Arena, Guild War and Clash of Worlds. On top of that, dodge reduction can’t touch him.

Julius

Julius is the tank players tend to underrate. His Defense Meowtrix absorbs every type of damage, and if his Copycat Device shield survives for five seconds, it gets copied onto every ally. For that reason, he needs a team that keeps him safe long enough for the copy to trigger.

Astaroth

Finally, Astaroth is the classic safe pick. He brings shields and stability, plus a resurrection that pulls a fallen ally back into the fight.

2. Warrior: Close-Combat Damage

Warriors are your close-combat damage dealers. Fighting from the front or the midline, they hit hard with physical attacks, either shredding enemy tanks or diving toward the backline.

Lyria

Lyria sits at the very top, and not just among warriors. She brought a completely new mechanic into the game: she counters dodge. For years, dodge teams shut physical attackers down. Her aura, however, strips dodge from nearby enemies and makes them take more physical damage. As a result, every physical hero on your team finally lands their hits.

Ishmael

Ishmael is the raw damage option. He’s useful in almost every mode, and his damage potential stays extremely high.

Tristan

Tristan, meanwhile, is the team player. He slots into a lot of meta teams and works in many different combinations.

3. Support: Making Everyone Else Win

Support heroes don’t win fights alone. Instead, they make everyone else win by removing negative effects, giving shields, resurrecting allies and boosting damage. In fact, some of the strongest heroes in the entire game live in this role.

Sebastian

Sebastian is widely considered the strongest hero in the game, even by the developers themselves. He wipes every debuff off his team and shields them from the next ones. On top of that, he boosts your critical hits with extra pure damage.

Nebula

Nebula fits into almost any team. Not only does she boost both physical and magic attack for her allies, but she also heals and cleanses them.

Isaac

Isaac is the nightmare of every magic hero, since he counters half the roster all by himself.

Fluffy

Fluffy is a top-tier support who shields the team from death, brings fallen allies back, and cancels enemy ultimates. Keep that name in mind, because Fluffy shows up again in the Control section.

4. Marksman: Ranged Physical Damage

Marksmen deal physical damage too, but from range. They sit safely in the midline or backline and rain down arrows, bullets and projectiles. Leave one unprotected, however, and they can wipe your team.

Lara Croft

Lara Croft stands out thanks to her violet skill, which keeps rolling random artifact bonuses onto her during the fight, from armor penetration to critical hit chance to dodge. Consequently, she’s both flexible and dangerous in the current meta.

Keira

Keira got a bigger boost from Lyria than any other marksman. Together, those two tear through most team setups.

Adam

Adam gets stronger the longer the fight goes. His Hunter’s Mark lets his shots ricochet between marked enemies, while his passive keeps stacking armor penetration and physical attack until the battle ends.

5. Mage: Magic Damage From the Backline

Mages deal magic damage, usually from the backline, and often with big area attacks that hit several enemies at once.

Augustus

Augustus changed the whole magic game. Because he converts magic damage into pure damage, he affects every magic attacker on the field.

Cascade

Cascade works on a similar scale. Specifically, he turns the basic attacks of Intelligence heroes into magic damage, so a big chunk of the roster gets stronger at once. Even healers start contributing real damage.

Krista

Krista became a genuinely strong hero after her rework, offering reliable damage and great synergy options.

Orion

Orion hits extremely hard. In addition, his artifact gives magic penetration to your whole team.

6. Control: Shutting the Enemy Down

Control heroes make the enemy useless. Stuns, sleep, silence and pulls all do the same thing: they stop the other team from doing its job.

Arachne

Arachne can lock down the enemy team almost instantly, which makes her one of the best control heroes in the game.

Jorgen

Jorgen is here too, and this is where Fluffy returns. When you pair them together, the control they chain shuts teams down before they can react.

Polaris

Polaris freezes enemies in place and makes every control effect on your team last longer. She also fits perfectly into modern teams, especially alongside Electra.

7. Healer: Keeping Your Team Standing

Healers restore health, and they usually stand further back to stay out of danger.

Aidan

Aidan shields his allies, heals the whole team, and bonds with a teammate so they share health. As a result, his team becomes much tankier, and he works especially well with Electra.

Guus

Guus heals hard and deals great damage at the same time. That combination makes him one of the strongest healers around.

Martha

Martha is the steady choice for long fights, since she speeds up her allies and pours healing over the whole team.

Build Around Roles, Not Power

So the tank holds the line, the warrior hits up close, and the support makes everyone stronger. Meanwhile, the marksman shoots from range, the mage burns with magic, control locks the enemy down, and the healer keeps you standing.

Use this Hero Wars Roles Guide as a checklist and build a team that covers these jobs instead of chasing the power number. Once you do, you’ll start beating teams that look stronger than yours on paper. After all, a strong team isn’t five strong heroes. It’s five heroes doing their jobs.
